FAQs

Question 1. How soon can we apply again after this funding ends/after being rejected?

Answer. If you want to apply to extend core or project funding from us, you should discuss the matter with your programme manager before your current grant expires. If you want to make a new application under the same programme, but for a different project, you should still speak to your programme manager before applying. Instances where we extend funding are rare; you should have a plan for how to continue your work (if it is necessary to do so) after our grant ends, and not assume we will offer further funding. If you have applied and been rejected you cannot re-apply for the same project unless there is something in your rejection letter that says otherwise. If in doubt ask your programme manager.

Question 2. Can you send us an application form and guidelines by e-mail?

Answer.
Yes, but the completed application must be posted back to the Foundation.

Question 3. If we have applied for a grant and we find that, at the end of the project, we have some money left over, can we use it for something else?

Answer.
If there is any money left over then you need to discuss with your programme manager whether or not you can apply it for some similar purpose. If the sum is very small we are very likely to say yes, but if there is a large amount then we need to consider whether the Trustees would wish to apply it to some other purpose.

Question 4. Our building project does not start until next year. Can we apply now?

Answer.
This depends very much on the individual application. Sometimes we understand that you need to have commitments quite far ahead of your project beginning. The best thing to do is to phone and talk to a programme manager. They will advise you on the right timescale.

Question 5. What are management accounts?

Answer.
We need to know how you manage your money, however modest the amounts are. Normally a well-run organisation will set out a budget and each month or quarter, or however frequently the Management Committee meets, the staff or volunteers will put together an up-to-date picture of the organisation’s finances. This would normally tell the Management Committee how well the organisation is performing according to its budget and its intentions. These are the figures we need to see if you do not have formal accounts.

Question 6. Can we download information or application forms from the website?

Answer.
Yes, please go to the ‘applying’ section, then click on the application form that you require and you will be asked to download the form.

Question 7. Do you like your application forms to be filled in on screen or typed or by hand?

Answer.
You can fill in the application on screen if you wish (Please note that the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, that you can download from the internet, does not allow you to save draft copies). The form must be completed and printed either a page at a time or all at once. Once printed, please sign the application form and send it to us. If you prefer you can download the application, print it off and fill it in by hand so long as it is readable.

Question 8. Can we hold more than one grant at a time?

Answer.
We normally discourage people from making multiple applications and from holding several grants at the same time. Sometimes an organisation that serves a wide variety of people will find that it can apply to different grant programmes in the Foundation. If you already have a grant from us and you wish to make a new application to benefit a completely different set of people, then send in your application and talk to the programme manager who is assigned to your case.

Question 9. How long does it take to get an answer?

Answer.
We acknowledge receipt of your application very quickly and let you know whether or not it is eligible. If you are asking for an amount less than £15,000 we will try to get you an answer in two to four months. Larger amounts (over £15,000) can take four to six months.
