Les Hems

Les has been involved with GuideStar UK since its inception. He was Head of Research at the NCVO between 1994 and 1998 where he initiated the programme of research on which the UK Voluntary Sector Almanac is based. Between 1998 and 2000 Les was at Johns Hopkins University and led the South Asia and Africa components of an international research project mapping the scale, scope and impact of the nonprofit sector. Les brings 17 years of third sector research experience encompassing large-scale surveys, policy analysis, programme evaluations and practitioner oriented action research. Over the last few years Les has focused on the development of databases, online data capture mechanisms and web-based information services. 

For the Study, Les leads on the exploitation of the data resources held by GuideStar UK and the integration of data from other sources including online surveys. He will also contribute to the development of tools, such as key indicators, to facilitate comparative analysis.
