An evaluation of a community co-operative for learning disabilities in the East End of Newcastle upon Tyne
KeyRing set up a project in the East End of Newcastle to provide a new model of support for people with learning disabilities, which was funded by Newcastle Learning Disabilities Partnership Board and Northern Rock Foundation.
The Co-operative was an experimental, two-year project that aimed to test a new model of supporting people with learning disabilities, which piloted some new and innovative ways of working. However, the Co-operative could not make its financial model work and in July 2009 it closed. The evaluation of the project continued and a report has been produced which can be downloaded below.
The report has identified learning points on:
- Live in support and recruiting live in supporters;
- Community development and building connections in the community;
- Funding and personalisation of social care;
- Housing;
- Planning with people with learning disabilities;
- Co-operatives;
- Supporting innovation and social enterprise
- Financial modelling.
These reports will be of interest to:
- People with learning disabilities with an interest in housing issues;
- Commissioners of services for people with learning disabilities and other vulnerable adults;
- Providers of community services for people with learning disabilities and other vulnerable adults;
- Funders and organisations with an interest in community development;
- Voluntary organisations working with local communities.
